The Earth-based Spirituality group is comprised of both members and non-members of South Church. We are interested in deepening our connection to the earth and to each other by celebrating the seasonal changes and their underlying energies. We follow the Wheel of the Year that divides the year into eight seasonal festivals: Mid-Winter Solstice (12/21), Imbolc (early February), Vernal Equinox (March 21), Beltaine (early May), Summer Solstice (6/21), Lammas (early August), Fall Equinox (September 21), and Samhain (late October). We hold rituals, open to anyone, at each of these seasonal times. See some photos attached below. Over the years we have held rituals at the beach, in individual’s backyards, at a nearby labyrinth (directions attached below), and of course, at the church. Together we have created headdresses, May Poles, and many other items at our rituals.
Together we studied a variety of topics including: the labyrinth, the elements, the practice and beliefs of Witchcraft in the United States, and Celtic Spirituality. The last few years we focused on the ancient concept of the labyrinth and have had many of our celebrations at the labyrinth in Kittery, Maine.
